Crafted Kup Exhibit - March 15, 2019 to May 15, 2019

Recently hung over 50 paintings at the Crafted Kup, located at 44 Raymond Ave., Poughkeepsie NY. These works were selected by my pal, Alvin Chiappolini, a talented local artist and musician. It’s nice to have the art somewhere with heavy traffic where many people are seeing it every day.

The paintings are a fairly diverse collection covering the time period that I have been actively painting (2003 to now). There will be a reception on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 5PM to 7PM. I hope you can stop by and take a closer look.

Geometry Abandoned #3

My most recent project is a series of paintings each based on the same geometric pattern, but starting from scratch with regard to cold (though tending toward a rough brightness).

A Cure For Common Sense

A Cure For Common Sense #1

One of the three paintings that I'll have in the upcoming members show at Barrett Art Center at 55 Noxon Street in Poughkeepsie, NY. The show opens May 27, 2017 with a reception from 3:00 to 6:00.

Trying out a matte finish on these three paintings. I'm trading off the brightness in exchange for reducing glare.

Alternative Perspective on the Walkway

Back in October, work colleagues and I went for a stroll on the Walkway Over the Hudson. I quickly fell behind as they admired the magnificent view of the valley. I found myself distracted by visual aspects of the surface of the Walkway itself and started taking photographs of the accidental abstractions formed by intersections, patches, and cracks. Here's one of them, which will be included in the upcoming Photoworks 2017 that opens at Barrett Art Center on January 21, 2017.

"Happy" Accident?

In October, I did 3 paintings entitled Spectrumba #1, #2, and #3. I painted three concentric spectrums and then planned to layer over them to add some complexity. After I finished the first layers, I liked them so much I decided to leave well enough alone and exhibit them in the Artists' Collective of Hyde Park's holiday show. Due to a schedule misunderstanding I left them in my car for a week with the surfaces of #1 and #2 facing each other and they adhered to each other. My ham handed attempt to separate them basically ruined them.

After a few choice curses, I returned #1 and #2 to the studio, where I patched them up, employed masking tape judiciously, and applied a second layer of paint. Spectrumba #2 Rebuilt has already sold, but you can see Spectrumba #1 Rebuilt at the Small Works show at the Artists' Collective of Hyde Park which runs through January 15, 2017.

Rainbows All The Way Down #1

My recent paintings have used a variety of techniques for layering. For this one, I painted a spectrum of color on a 12x12 canvas with acrylic paint. After it dried, I loosely applied 3 strips of masking tape and then poured a complementary spectrum of acrylic paint mixed with Golden's GAC 800. Once the tape was removed, and the paint dried, this was the result.

GAC 800 (mixed 4 to 1 with acrylic paint) is my preferred medium when pouring paint.
